NEW HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE PEWS
We are happy to announce the completion of two pews for handicapped access. (The
pews in the front of the church on both the left and right sides). The new pews
will enable parishioners in wheelchairs and walkers to sit among the assembly in
the same pew as their family members and/or caretakers. Prior to these pews a
person in a wheelchair had to sit either in the back of the church or in front
of the first pew. The new pews are in addition to an existing handicapped
accessible bathroom and an elevator from the parking areas to the church itself.

IN MEMORIAM
The Altar Bread and Wine for the month of May has been donated in loving memory
of James Cullinane by Ellen Rogers and Family.
The Candles have been donated in memory of Michael O'Daly by Sue Watson.
STEWARDSHIP: JESUS' WAY - The example of Jesus: Jesus is the supreme teacher of
Christian stewardship, as he is every other aspect of Christian life: and in
Jesus' teaching and life self-emptying is fundamental. Now, it might seem that
self-emptying has little to do with stewardship, but in Jesus' case that is not
so. His self-emptying is not sterile self-denial for its own sake: rather in
setting aside self, he is filled with the Father's will, and he is fulfilled
with the Father's will, and he is fulfilled in just this way: "My food is to do
the will of the one who sent me and to finish his work" (Jn 4:34).
Jesus' mission is to restore to good order the created household of God which
sin has disrupted. He not only perfectly accomplished this task, but also, in
calling disciples, empowers them to collaborate with him in the work of
redemption for themselves and on behalf of others.
Our Stewardship of Treasure for the week of 4/04/08
amounted to $7,134.00.
Ascension = $1,030.00.
Children's Collection = $10.75.
Maintenance & Repair = $30.00.

ST. DYMPHNA
Dymphna was fourteen when her mother died. Damon is said to have been afflicted
with a mental illness, brought on by his grief. He sent messengers throughout
his town and other lands to find some woman of noble birth, resembling his wife,
who would be willing to marry him. When none could be found, his evil advisors
told him to marry his own daughter. Dymphna fled from her castle together with
St. Gerebran, her confessor and two other friends. Damon found them in Belgium.
He gave orders that the priest's head be cut off. Then Damon tried to persuade
his daughter to return to Ireland with him. When she refused, he drew his sword
and struck off her head. She was then only fifteen years of age. Dymphna
received the crown of martyrdom in defense of her purity about the year 620. She
is the patron of those suffering from nervous and mental afflictions. Many
miracles have taken place at her shrine, built on the spot where she was buried
in Gheel, Belgium.
Prayer: Hear us, O God, Our Savior, as we honor St. Dymphna, patron of those
afflicted with mental and emotional illness. Help us to be inspired by her
example and comforted by her merciful help. Amen.

THE PREPARATION OF THE GIFTS
The altar is prepared at the beginning of the liturgy of the Eucharist. The
corporal, a white linen cloth, is unfolded over the altar cloth already in
place. When all is ready, the faithful bring forward the offerings of bread and
wine. Money and gifts for the poor may also be collected and brought forward;
these are put in a suitable place away from the altar.
The procession is accompanied by the offertory chant, usually an antiphon and
psalm. Even when there is no procession, singing may accompany the rites of
preparation. The priest places the bread and wine on the altar, praying silently
as indicated in the Missal. He may also, if there is no singing, say aloud the
prescribed formulas. He then bows low, praying silently, "with humble spirit and
contrite heart" (cf. Daniel 3:39-40).
The priest may then incense the offerings, the cross, and the altar. The clouds
of incense rising in the presence of God are a sign of the Church's prayer. The
priest may also be incensed, in recognition of his sacred ministry, and the
people too, by reason of their baptismal dignity. The priest then washes his
hands, praying silently, "Wash me of my iniquity, Lord, and cleanse me from my
sin" (Psalm 50:2)
