Human Concerns

Empowered by the Holy Spirit, the Human Concerns Ministry addresses the corporal needs of our brothers and sisters in the name of Jesus Christ thereby helping to sustain their spirits. Our programs:
Advent Giving Tree - A service which invites parishioners to remove gift tags from the Holiday “Giving Tree” in return for an item donation. The gifts are then distributed to various agencies serving infants through senior adults in time for Christmas. One Christmas, we distributed over 700 gifts to Mother Teresa’s Soup Kitchen (Newark), Birthright (Maywood), Tomorrow’s Children Unit (HUMC), the Long-Term Care Unit at Bergen Regional Medical Center and DYFS.

Food Pantry - A service which collects non-perishable food items to replenish the Pantry at Sacred Heart Church in Rochelle Park.

Harrison House - A service to provide monthly meals for up to ten AIDS patients at Bergen Regional Medical Center. These meals are prepared at home and then delivered by 3pm on the assigned day.

Holiday Food Baskets - A service which collects, packs and delivers food baskets to those in need at Thanksgiving and at Easter.

Soup Kitchens - We go to St. John's in Newark once a month to serve the food we have prepared at home to our brothers and sisters in Christ. Volunteers meet in the rear parking lot of church on the designated date and car pool when vehicles are available to the appropriate kitchen.  If interested in participating at St. John's, please contact Mary Flanigan at parish@olqp.org.

Meetings are scheduled periodically between September through June and will be held at the Parish Center. See the current Bulletin or our Calendar for the next Meeting.
