Parents and Godparents must attend a class (Baptismal Catechesis) and actively participate at the 12 Noon Mass on the day of instruction. For complete information, please click the link below.
Baptism Registration Form
Sponsor Certificates - If you are requesting a sponsor certificate for Baptism or Confirmation, you must be registered, practicing and meet all Church requirements for a minimum of 3 months before any certificate will be issued.
Canon 687 states “Parents are obliged to see that their infants are baptized within the first few weeks.” The code adds that the baptismal preparation can even be done even before the birth. It reminds parents for their duty to educate and raise the child in the Faith with the help of the godparents and the parish (CCC 1251). Through this cooperation of the parents, they fulfill the wish of the Lord to go and baptize in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit (Mt. 28:20). If you know someone who has an unbaptized baby or about to give birth, please talk to our priests or call the Parish at 201-845-9566. Together, we can prepare the Sacrament for your child.
Baptism preparation is conducted by couples from our parish. They open their hearts and homes to parents whose children are about to be Baptized. This is a joyful ministry. Baptism is once a month and the couples rotate. We welcome couples who would like to join our Baptismal team.
Baptism Ministry
Jesus said, "Go therefore and make disciples of all men, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit."
The Sacrament of Infant baptism is held at OLQP once a month, except during Lent. Infant baptism is for children from birth until the age of six. Since infant baptisms are held only once a month, many families participate. It is necessary therefore, to have several ministry teams overseeing this rite.
The Baptism Ministry currently consists of several married couples (Coordinators) and other parishioners (Greeters). The coordinators serve the parish community by facilitating preparation classes for the parents and godparents of children to be baptized. These classes are held prior to the baptism and they prepare the parents with knowledge of the sacrament to enable them to foster growth in their own faith and that of their children.
On the day of the infant baptism, the Greeters serve as host/hostess for the baptism. They prepare the church for the celebration with the necessary items required for the baptism. They greet the families and friends as they arrive, seat them in their assigned place in the church and answer any questions or concerns they might have regarding the ceremony. The Coordinators are also there to assist the priest or deacon as needed during the ceremony.
Jesus said, "Let the children come to me." The rebirth of an infant through the waters of baptism is an opportunity for us to renew our pledge to God. The Sacrament of Baptism is the first building block in the spiritual foundation along their journey toward our Savior. It is the greatest gift a parent can give to their children, the gift of life in Christ.
