Ministries
Father Tony, the Pastoral Council, and all in our parish invite you to join a ministry and be involved in your parish.
The ministries are a vital part of our church. Church-first let’s describe what that is. Many of you may think the Church is just a building. While that could be one definition, that is not the important one. The true Church is all of us: me, you, the clergy, all of us, that is, all of the Christian Church throughout the world. However, at this time, we are focusing on our parish.
In order to have a healthy church that is tending to the needs and wants of all, we need to be involved in the activities of the parish in some fashion. In the New Testament, it is stated in James 2:17 "…faith by itself, if not accompanied by actions, is dead”. This is because we are a reflection of Christ. As such, once saved, we do good to and for those around us, as stated in Galatians 6:10. That means that our faith should be driving us to share Jesus, for we are the light of the world, as Matthew 5:14 states.
To be able to join as a familial unit, and understand what the needs and wants of all of us are, we need to share this with each other. The only way this can be done is for us to be involved with one another; then, we can better tend to each other’s needs and have a better relationship with all. This group camaraderie and desire to help each other will then give an obvious glow to those outside of our Christian family. It will be an example of how we can and should live.
Once others see how we can be a family with all of our differences, it will make them curious as to what is going on here; and the “what that is going on here” is that we all have the same focus, being more like Jesus. Seeing these interactions may then draw others into a desire to find out what we have here, and maybe even join us.
All of this can be done with just a little effort from all of us. You don’t need to jump in and commit 5 days a week to anything. Just see where there is something you may want to become a part of. Even if it is just communicating with people in different groups in order to keep the dialog going. So, please do look through the many ministries listed here and I think you will be amazed to see the number of things we have going on in our parish.
Saint Pope John Paul II commented on the action of work in his writings “Human Work: First Insights”. Work, considered in the light of creation, is a gift from God. Man, made in the image and likeness of God, is called to perfect the world and himself, and in so doing “shares by his work in the activity of the Creator”.
In summary, by participating in a ministry you will be doing what Jesus told his disciples to do in Matthew 28:19, “Go and make disciple of all nations”.
Please take a look at the various ministries in our parish and join one that may suit you today.
Thank you for your Stewardship of Time and Talent!
